Course Description
“Introduction to Teaching Online Using Moodle” is an instructor-led, online course being developed for use at Lincoln University by faculty members and teaching staff who have limited or no experience teaching online or using a learning management system (LMS). Faculty taking the course will create a course, or most of a course, to be used as a hybrid or web-enhanced online course. I want the course to focus on using Moodle to teach online rather than use it as a repository for documents.
There are seven modules planned for the course covering commonly used Moodle tools and the best practices in their use. I am particularly interested in introducing the faculty to the differences in teaching online and face-to-face and helping them discover what it will entail as they create their courses.
Faculty may also choose from four self-paced online courses and will focus on basic to intermediate use of Moodle and an introduction to the pedagogy of online teaching.
“Introduction to Online Teaching Using Moodle” will be differentiated from the self-paced online courses by the interactivity with an instructor and focus on research-based best practices in online teaching. While learning several common Moodle tools, participants will investigate practices in online teaching that focus on learning as student-centered, student-directed and instructor-facilitated.
