Assessment in E-Learning, SP15-93C

This is the final project for "Assessment in E-Learning", SP15-93C, one of the five courses in the graduate certificate program at UW-Stout, E-Learning and Online Teaching. I am developing an online course for faculty at Lincoln University to introduce them to online teaching and the use of Moodle, a learning management system. Faculty in this course will be learning how to use common Moodle tools while also learning how to be a student and how to teach in an online class.
We are changing to a new version of Moodle after less than a year using Moodle, so it is still new to many members of the teaching staff. Most of the faculty and teaching staff will be familiar with the basics of using an LMS, like Desire2Learn and WebCT, but they have not taken classes in the best practices or pedagogy of online teaching and learning. With their packed schedules, they may not take the time to investigate best practices and they may be using them already without knowing it. Most of our faculty teaching online are working in web-enhanced courses which meet face-to-face all of the time, but many are interested in teaching in a hybrid format, or expanding the student population to include some who would not come to our main residential campus for classes.
For these curious faculty, we will look at how to create a presence online, build a learning community, create useful feedback on quizzes to generate learning, and how to sustain a highly interactive, student-centered online class.
I am learning myself, so this will be a joint venture. I'm not sure where it will go, or who will stay, and I am sure there will be changes. Feel free to send me comments and suggestions.
